Necessary Noize
Necessary Noize was a Kenyan Hip Hop and Reggae group formed in 2000 originally made up of Nazizi Hirji, Wyre the Love Child (Kevin Wyre) and Bamzigi (Harrison Munio). Bamzigi and Nazizi were rappers while Wyre was a singer. They were appreciated for their socially conscious lyrics that deal with issues affecting youth such as AIDS, drugs and politics and were seen as an antidote to the over-commercialization of urban music in Kenya. Their debut self-titled debut album came out in early 2001 under Audio Vault Studios (later Blu Zebra) that was run by Ted Josiah. The group has unofficially disbanded with Nazizi and Wyre teaming up with Ugandan artist Babe Cool to form the on and off ‘East African Bashment Crew’ (EABC) which has had relative success within the East African region.
