Princess Jully
Princess Jully shot to fame when in the 1990s, her Benga hit single ‘Dunia Mbaya’ became a local club and radio hit. The title, literally translated in Swahili to mean, 'The World is Dangerous,' warned populace of the then epidemic that was HIV / AIDS in the country and especially Lou Nyanza. The song became the unofficial anthem for local NGOs and the government in highlighting the pandemic. She was part of the now disbanded Divas of the Nile that comprised of Suzzana Owiyo, Achieng Abura and Mercy Myra. Princess Jully now lives in Migori County working as a peasant gold miner earning 2 dollars a day.
