Salama Salim
You would notice at first glance that Salama is indeed in touch with fashion. This outgoing Rwandan- born beauty has an outstanding penchant for shopping and a natural flair for combining both current and vintage fashionable trends, using prints and patterns. Raised in Kenya for the better part of her life, this second year law student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology began designing in December last year, her main motivation coming from her Rwandan culture as well as her supportive mother who always encourages her to do anything as long as it’s an honest job. Her inspiration comes from her tradition. Her main focus is on using African fabric for her creations be it clothing or a bag or footwear. She initially started making clothes for herself, which she later changed to making for both herself and others. This marked the birth of her clothing line Kashe Wear, which makes clothing for both men and women. She markets her designs online on her Facebook and Twitter page. Her designs are versatile and cross-seasonal, futuristic, colorful, vintage but with a really modern twist, modern and chic elegant. She plans to expand her business and have a physical store that will make it more convenient to her fast growing clientele who cannot reach her online. This will also increase her market network as many will actually see her carefully made designs. She is currently working on a new design, for both genders which will be out soon at affordable rates. She dresses herself and has also dressed models at a school event, Mr. & Mrs. JKUAT. Very common figure in the social scene, Salama is best known for her tactful selection prints and patterns and overzealous colors. Once described as the ‘It girl’ on social media, Salama is the kind of girl who sets the trends and walks around with a certain magical aura around her.
