Suzanna Owiyo
Suzanna Owiyo is a Contemporary African musician from Kenyan. She was born in Nyakach near the lake side city of Kisumu and introduced to music at an early age by grandfather, who was a prolific Nyatiti player. Clearing high school in 1998, she joined Nairobi based singer Sally Oyugi as a backup musician and two years later teamed up with a band known as Bora Bora also based in Nairobi. After leaving the band, she took lessons at the Kenya Conservatoire of Music, whilst nurturing her skills at a club in Karen. As luck would have it, she was requested to compose a track in preparation for centennial celebrations for the city of Kisumu and her efforts resulted to hit single “Kisumu 100” which spawned an album with the same title produced by Ted Josiah. Owiyo has since been invited to perform in numerous concerts both local and international and her albums have featured the who’s who in contemporary African music. With a treasure trove of awards it’s of little wonder then that her new single, ‘Wameil,” is on the list of nominees for the Pulse Female Video of the Year Award, 2015.
